KEY DOCTRINES

  1. Bible - We believe the Bible to be the divinely inspired, infallible (absolutely trustworthy), inerrant (free from error), and authoritative Word of God. (This doctrine is important because without it we have no dependable standard of truth on which to base our lives.)
  2. God - We believe there is one God eternally existent in the three persons of the Holy Trinity. (This doctrine is important because to say that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three gods or three Amodes@ in which the one God has revealed Himself is contrary to the meaning and teaching of the Scriptures.)
  3. Jesus Christ - We believe in the virgin birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, His deity (the fact that he is God), His sinless and perfect life, the eternal and sufficiency of this death, his bodily resurrection, his literal ascension back to heaven, and his personal coming again at some point in the future. (This doctrine is important because if Jesus Christ is any less than the Scriptures clearly state, we have an insufficient Saviour, and the basis of our own salvation is taken away.)
  4. Man's Fall and Salvation - We believe that man was created in innocence, but by his voluntary action fell from his sinless and happy state and now all men are sinful by nature and choice and therefore justly condemned without defense or excuse. We believe that justification (to be put in right standing with God) is a judicial act of God on the believer=s behalf solely on the merits of Christ, and the regeneration (receiving spiritual life by the power of the Holy Spirit) is absolutely essential for personal salvation (assurance of forgiveness of sin and the gift of eternal life with God. (This doctrine is important because if our eternal salvation rests on anything but what Christ has done, we will forever wonder if we are doing enough to be accepted by God. Without the experience of God's grace one's life is empty and without real meaning.)
  5. Holy Living - We believe in holy living, that every believer is baptized into the body of Christ and indwelt at conversion by the Holy Spirit and Spirit filled as control is yielded to Christ. The evidence of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the believer=s life is the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
  6. The Church - We believe in Christ=s Lordship of the Church, that its missions is to evangelize, baptize and teach believers to observe all that the Lord commanded, and to equip the congregation in the use of its God given gifts in order to build up the Body of Christ. (This doctrine is important because it is as we use our gifts to edify and care for one another that we stand out in the community as a church and as individual members drawing others to Christ and fulfilling the Great Commission.)
  7. Heaven and Hell - We believe in a literal heaven, where those who have received Christ will spend eternity with God, and in a literal hell where those who, sadly, have rejected Christ, will spend eternity. (This doctrine is important because in the struggles of life it is encouraging for the believer to know that the promise of heaven awaits them. God is a loving God, and He is also a just and holy God. He cannot allow sin to go unpunished. The doctrine of hell reminds us that the Awages of sin is death@ and eternal separation from God for all who have not accepted God's gracious provision of salvation.)
  8. The Lord's Day - We believe that Sunday is the Lord=s Day commemorating Christ=s resurrection, and this is the day we keep for congregational worship.

DISCIPLINE
(BYLAW ARTICLE I, SECTION C, ITEM 1)

Members and ratified workers failing to observe the basic principles of Christian faith and conduct as found in our Statement of Faith, and to such degree as to bring reproach upon the name of the church and it=s ministry, shall be interviewed by the elders, who in turn will make a recommendation to the church as to what measures of discipline should be taken.

h.CODE OF ETHICS

(Update February 2007) In order to protect the people being ministered to, our church, its ministries and our ministry workers, ministry workers shall:

  1. Observe the basic principles of Christian faith and conduct as stated in our Statement of Faith.
  2. Comply with all Bonnyville Baptist Church policies/ procedures.
  3. Be screened in accordance with our APlan to Protect@ if providing care for children (e.g. child care services provided during an adult event), whether or not it is a >Children=s/Youth Ministry= event.
  4. Avoid any potential misunderstandings or compromising situations by ensuring they are not alone with a child/youth in a private room. Care must be taken when giving rides - prearrange rides as much as possible.
  5. Document any and all critical incidents and bring to the attention of the coordinator and pastor or director responsible for that ministry. Critical incidents are those significantly out of the norm - e.g., medical emergencies and injuries requiring First Aid, accidents, abuse to self, peers or leaders, discipline situations that escalate out of control, missing children, conflicts.

NON-HARASSMENT POLICY

(Update August 2006)

Section One: Purpose

One of the fundamental tenets of Evangelical Baptists is that we believe the Bible to be our final authority in both faith and practice. Scripture provides a higher standards than that expressed in this policy and employees and ministry workers are expected to live by that higher standard. This policy provides minimal general guidelines and establishes a mechanism to permit someone to act if he or she feels they are being harassed and personal confrontation has not alleviated the situation.
